Chicago and PROJECT ACCESSORY Episode 3

Posted by | Posted on 07-11-2011

I returned from my whirlwind trip late last night. Yesterday I gave a lecture on collecting vintage jewelry at the Woman’s Athletic Club of Chicago. The trip was great and my second to the windy city. It lived up to its name too. It was really cold. Yet there I was and it was as memorable experience as my first trip to speak there three years ago. The members could not have been more welcoming which warmed me considerably.

So, ok, let’s get down to PA business: the episode three was pretty straightforward. No gimmicks, no slight of hand. Even the catsuits had purpose. The challenge: to see what the contestants could do to change the look of the body dressed in the most pared down of outfits. With no silhouette to play off of the accessories, how do you change the shape of the body, make it cool and interesting? I liked the concept of the challenge because it placed focus on the accessories alone rather coordinating them with a look. Color was the only added nuance, and much

Bronze Bee Charms Fit Right in at Alison Kelley Designs

Posted by | Posted on 30-10-2011

Bronze jewelry charms fit right into Alison Kelleys jewelry aesthetic. Her designs are modern with a bit of whimsy, and complimented with a soothing color palette. We are thrilled to have her as a blog partner. We sent her a goodie bag filled with bronze charms and pendants and she really knocked it out of the park!

Be sure to go to Alisons blog to see all her creations. The gemstone combo she paired with the bronze peacock feather is just lovely; and the gold filled chain is a perfect match! Her whimsical combination of tiny bronze charms with hand-stamped messages are super sweet too. I personally feel that all moms everywhere should be rewarded with one of Alisons Queen Bee necklaces!

Follow Alisons blog for a chance to win her fabulous Tree of Life necklace. Shop Alisons jewelry on her Etsy shop.

I’m So Over Heavy Metal

Posted by | Posted on 19-10-2011

The tagline references both the lightness of palladium and the connection to heavy metal music of the three glamorous stars who are the faces of the campaign. Pamela Anderson (ex-wife of  Motley Crue drummer, Tommy Lee), Kelly Osbourne (daughter of Black Sabbath lead singer, Ozzy Osbourne) and Rose McGowan (former girlfriend of heavy metal rocker Marilyn Manson) each have their individual very glamorous ads touting the appeal of palladium jewelry.

Read more about why we agree with these beautiful women and love to create palladium jewelry.

Culturally Speaking: Ballenchine’s Jewels and Other Stagy Gems

Posted by | Posted on 13-10-2011

The Royal Ballet’s new production of JEWELS, a ballet in three parts, also known as a triptych, was conceived by George Balanchine originally for The New York City Ballet in 1967. Each act is colored by a gem theme of emeralds, rubies, and diamonds respectively with every dance set to a different composer’s work; the three acts represent periods in the choreographer’s life. The inspiration behind the production was based on a stroll down New York City’s Fifth Avenue when Balanchine was struck by Van Cleef & Arpels brilliant window display. The original costumes are being used in the current show and they possess the depth of character of their corresponding gemstone, they are that wonderful in execution and stage presence. The videos about the production and the costumes on the Royal Opera House’s website should not to be missed as they offer a very rare and fascinating backstage view of the ballet and its history.

In other gem dramas: Tiffany & Co. will be providin
